Abstract: | Examines the functions of consciousness (CSC), as described by Freud, in hypercathected speech-imagery, focusing on psychical processes and attentional hypercathexis. Topics discussed include the concepts of intrinsic and tertiary CSC, hypotheses of the CSC as appendage or subjective side, a hypothetical variant of Freud’s conscious psychical processes, and the cognitive content of conscious mental states. Also considered are tertiary CSC and hypercathected speech-imagery and improvement of intrinsic CSC through hypercathexis of attention. ((c) 1999 APA/PsycINFO, all rights reserved) |
