Abstract: Addresses what is known about the consciousness of fully commissurotomized people, taking issue with 3 alternative concepts of this condition: J. C. Eccles’s (1970) dualist-interactionist concept, G. Gillet’s (1987) linguistic concept, and G. Rey’s (1983) eliminative concept. Issues about the 1st 2 concepts are raised with the intention of helping the respective proponents improve their positions. It is argued that the 3rd view should not be promoted, for moral reasons, unless strong evidence in its favor becomes available. ((c) 1999 APA/PsycINFO, all rights reserved)
