| Abstract: | Discusses R. Shaw and J. Bransford (1977) (Critics A) and M. T. Turvey and R. Shaw’s (1979) (Critics B) opposition to the author’s view (see PA, Vols 53:2211, 61:35, and 64:7510) that perceptions have propositional contents that imply truth value. It is concluded that Critics A’s denial of proposition contents has led to an indirect representationalist conception, particularly as it concerns perception’s contribution to our knowledge of the environment. Further, Critics B were unsuccessful in showing that to admit the truth or falsity of perceptual contents is to imply that perception is indirect in the sense of involving inference.
